The Important Role of the Parent...

Your child's success in learning to play an instrument depends a lot on you.  Your involvement is vital to your child's attitude and progress.  Encourage your child to play for you every day.  Be generous with enthusiastic with praise.  Offer your support when your child becomes discouraged.  Above all, participate - meet the band director, attend concerts and volunteer whenever possible.  Regardless of your own musical background, you will derive great satisfaction and enjoyment from following your child's progress.
WHAT IS A PASS-OFF AND WHEN ARE THEY DUE?
The term pass-off refers to a weekly instrument playing test.  Pass-off tests are in the music book that is required for band class.
Students will be given their assigned pass-off in class and then expected to play it before the week is over.
Students may perform the pass-off test two different ways.  Pass-offs can be played for Mr. McElwain after school with
prior permission or when time allows we will go around in class and listen to each other play the pass-off.
Mr. McElwain will let the student know if they can move onto the next pass-off test
.
